Yanik Fillion-Murphy is Canadian composer and pianist from Ottawa, Canada. In 2018, he wrote a six movement suite for piano quartet entitled Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast, movements from this suite were performed at Brandon University New Music Festival (2017), the Winnipeg New Music Festival (2017) and in London, England as part of the BU’s New Music Ensemble's participation in the CoLab festival (2018) at Trinity Laban Conservatory of Music and Dance. In 2019, Yanik moved to Ottawa to study with Dr. John Armstrong at the University of Ottawa as part of a masters in composition. In the same year his string quartet received 2nd mention in the International Composition Competition for String Quartet “Nuestra América”, this composition was performed by the José White String Quartet in 2020. In 2021, he was awarded the Ernest-Gagnon Scholarship for a French-Canadian musical project. Yanik set the poetry of Nerée Beauchemin in a contemporary musical soundscape. Scored for mezzo-soprano, flute, bassoon, percussion, violin, cello and piano. The wind quintet Horizons réfracté was welected as a winner the 2022 Ottawa Pops Orchestra’s New Works Project and recieved a live performance.

In piano he has won numerous awards in local and provincial festivals in BC and Manitoba. Highlights includes: Runner-up and National Festival recommendation in Chamber Music (Associated Manitoba Arts Festival 2019), Tudor Bowl champion (Brandon Festival of the Arts 2017), Best J.S. Bach (AMAF 2017). In addition Yanik won the Brandon University concerto competition in 2016 and was invited to perform André Mathieu's Concerto no.4 with the BU Orchestra (spring 2017).

Since 2021, Yanik has focused his energy into building a private music teaching studio. Consisting of students of diverse ages and level.

One of Yanik’s strongest passions is recording music. He has released numerous CDs consisting entirely of original instrumental music from diverse musical styles. Some explore progressive rock, jazz and symphonic metal such as Storm Odyssey (2011) & Dark Woods (2017), while Tonesketch (2023) explores cyberpunk and synthwave styles.
